Week 2 - October 8 to October 14

Saturday, October 8

Today, we rest and ready for the week to come.

Our neighbor, Mohmed, from across the street,
who lives in the House of MOUSSU,
loaned us his book called "Once Upon a Time...Rivel"

Old map of area of Rivel

Newer map of the village

This is "our" street
Moussu is on the left of the person in the photo
"Our" house is on the right of the person

Sunday, October 9

Today is the day for a visit to the Marché du Dimanche in Espéraza.

The first look by the church

Behind the two people is
the gîte (the gray-blue shutters)
where we lived in 2012

Yes, the paella...
this is the reason to
come here!

More views of the marché

We meet Brian and Tina where we used to have coffee and/or wine after our French class.

Here's the place, I didn't get a photo
of Brian and Tina...
next time we see them, a photo

John loads the goods in the car and then we're headed home

Out of Espéraza

Into Fa

And out of FA

Views to the valleys along the way home

We take a walk to look at the Chateau Chalabre
First a look at Chalabre

 The Chalabre Chateau

And that's pretty much the adventure for the day.

Tuesday, October 11

Today we check out the map displayed by John's bench in the park.
It has the walking, biking, horseback riding trails in the area.

It appears there is a lot of hiking for us to do.

We are going to check out #5

And so we begin our walk

The view of Rivel

Some of the sheep?

It's bright today!
What kind of tree
is this?

Afternoon break

Wednesday, October 12

John likes to sit in this "park" and read in the morning.

There is a memorial in the park
A tribute to the soldiers in WWII

I tried to do the wash today. When I plugged the washer into the socket the ceiling lights went out.
I switched all the breakers on and off and still the lights did not go back on.  We had the house caretaker, Jo, come over and she showed us how the breakers should look and the lights went on...
see below.

I was able to do the wash and we were able to eat dinner with lights on.

That's it for today!

On our way home

We drive by and promise to take a closer look soon

Friday, October 14

I work on the blog...

Our walk today, we stroll through the Hamlet

Allée des Acacias

The Village Church

There is a community art show this weekend starting today.

Laurence Bourgeois' studio

Beautiful work with glass fused with natural objects and prints.

Maggie and Sarah
Maggie showing her kimonos
Sarah became our translator

The Salle de Marie

This "Expo" turned out to be a welcoming to the English speaking community of Rivel.
Not only did we find some fellow artists (one with a press) but an English speaking community that seems to be very friendly and helpful.

That's the second week of Rivel.
