September 30 we leave for France!

We start this week on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022

We get dropped off at the Los Angeles International Airport...

Happy to get in line to board the plane for an 11 hour flight...

Saturday, Oct. 1

We make it to Charles De Gaulle

Now to the train station...

Gare Montparnasse, Paris to Toulouse

We rent our 100% electric car, a Fiat 500e, at Sixt that is right next to the train station in Toulouse.

Our overnight at the Toulouse-Blagnac
Airport Residence Inn

Sunday, Oct. 2

GPS makes the drive to Rivel easy/simple...

It's an easy drive if you know how to drive
this car and can read the GPS in French

Looks close now
Yes, it's Rivel

We've arrived...
4 Ave. Ste. Cécile

Now we enter the house...

Now we need to find the nearest charging station to charge up the car and buy some food for dinner.

Chalabre charging station
near the Carrefour Express

The Carrefour Express is closed at 1 pm on Sundays, so we find the Sports Bar in town!

Rosé and chips for 2 hours while car charges. Not a bad way to spend the first day.

On the way home we encounter a sheep herd being moved
to higher ground.

We are told to be careful of the sheep dogs
darting around the herd.

Approaching home

Getting home we hear the sheep bells.
They are going up our road toward and
past Ste. Cécile

Monday, Oct.3

Need to fully charge the car.
Mirepoix has a charging station near the town square where there is a big open air market on Mondays.
There is also a SuperU for things we can't get at the Farmer's Market.

The charger across the round about from SuperU
in the other direction the Farmer's Market

Welcome to Mirepoix

Places to eat

John finds the Olive stand...

Can't make up his mind.

We have lunch and then SuperU

------

Next we go home and check out the Église Sainte Cécile

We feast on our scavenging from the Farmer's Market.

Roasted Chicken, Cheve (hard and soft),
saucissan , tomatoes, carrots and olives
Prosecco to top it all off

Tuesday, Oct. 4

Jo comes by to meet us and make sure things are settling in.  She and Ian will be gone until Sunday so they won't be available to help if needed.  So far we are doing fine.

We need to go to Chalabre for a Carrefour Express visit. We need to see what they have and don't have and get things we didn't know we were missing at the first run to the store.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

Today I have to learn how to use the kitchen and how to use/do the laundry.

It's quite a luxury to have a dryer.
We will be careful
about using the dryer

We walk to the Post Office to see if we can buy a baguette.
We have to preorder it for the next day. We order for tomorrow.

Exploring the surroundings...

Following the road out of Rivel

Route 520

The next village?

Getting ready for Paté

Going back home, we discover these bathes

Built in 1879

In pretty good shape for
being over 100 years old?

Thursday, Oct 6

It's a day to hang out.  Nothing new - Got our baguette from the Post Office.
I dusted and straightened out the garage, so I could feel like the laundry would feel clean.

Met our neighbor across the street.

Friday, Oct. 7

Taking the advise of the  kitchen chalk board.
Nothing planned.

Found a jar of Cassoulet with Duck Confit

Friday nite dinner

That's it for this week.
This weekend we plan to see friends at the Dimanche Marché in Espéraza.
Can hardly wait!
