Independencia Plaza Montevideo, Uruguay |
We start our Uruguay adventure at the BAires Buquebus Ferry terminal – beautiful and busy, lounge area is lovely.
The ferry ride is about an hour where we arrive at the Colonia Ferry and Bus terminal
It's clean and efficient, we are off onto the road.

So little traffic and so open... |
Uruguay – reminds us of uncluttered Costa Rica

--The 4 Points Sheraton Montevideo--
Welcoming, Helpful and Very Comfortable.
We are on the 7th floor. We have a view…???

The front desk is very helpful and arranges for us to go on the city tour, but first we explore the building next door. It turns out to be a place where people go to eat, dance, perform and the floor below is the artisans' market.

The City Tour
Independencia Plaza Start of the CityTour |
Built by the same architect - they were supposed to be able to beam their lights at the top of the cupolas from one city to the other - it didn't work.
Coastline – looks like CA – could be in Pacific Grove/Santa Cruz
Montevideo skyline
Last view from our room – does it storm whenever we venture from our primary destination? Seems like it.

When we get back from MV, John has an email from the credit union that they need more information, signatures, etc. to be able to make international wire transfers. The freighter cruise line will only accept cash or wire transfers – we have been dealing with all this bureaucracy from the freighter company and the bank for over a month now and we have decided to abandon the freighter cruise “project”. We will find somewhere else to spend the month of March – Brazil? Senegal? Portugal? We shall see.
In the meantime, we have made arrangements for Xmas – Patagonia, here we come!
____________
Sunday, we make a return trip to Feria de San Telmo to look for a watch for John and to see El Indio and Virginia show off the Tango in the Plaza Dorrego.
Boothes in Plaza Dorrego
Blue and Green Selzer, Photos and Paintings and lots of other fun stuff.
Tango with El Indio and Virginia (teachers from Cultura Tanguera) perform every Sunday in the Plaza.
Moving down Av Defensa, we see street performers and artesan wares.
We end our week at a café on Av Defensa with Quilmes Stout (Negra) and papas fritas.
